The Splendid World
New! Narrative collections
Sometimes a single image isn’t enough, even when the subject is breathtaking. That’s why I’ve created a new website section where I can display sets of related photographs that together allow me to tell a more layered, more evocative story than a location-based portfolio of single images can accomplish on its own. I look forward to, over time, mounting a series of small, narrative gallery shows right here on my website.
The first collection is called, “The Weight of Blue: Reflections on an Icelandic Glacier.”
I hope you enjoy it. As always, you can find my ever evolving natural-world photography below.

About me
Photo: Anais Afrika
I’ve been photographing our splendid world for five decades and am still enthralled by the beauty, diversity, and intelligence of even the most minute creatures. An erstwhile wildlife biologist, I try not to disturb the animals and habitats I’m photographing but rather try to capture natural behaviors in extraordinary settings.
After a full career communicating about medical and financial science, I am delighted to focus once again on bringing natural science alive through dramatic images and amazing creatures from far-flung locations.
In addition to loving the natural world, I have always been fascinated by the splendid world within each of us, the private world organized and colored by our innate being and the experiences we’ve had. I explore this interest in part through other art forms, such as abstract painting—where a colorful visual gesture can elicit a deep and intriguing emotional resonance.
